What is Pipe-It ?

Pipe-It is a unique software application that allows you to graphically and computationally integrate models and optimize petroleum assets. Pipe-It can launch any software application you are currently running, on any operating system. Pipe-It chains together your applications, in series and parallel. Pipe-It's versatile Streamz technology manages the complex oil and gas streams processed by models making up an integrated asset. Our fundamental philosophy is that current work flows should not be disturbed, with each application custodian continuing to use the same software, including all utilities for pre- and post-processing. The main function of Pipe-It is to provide added value through
  • modular integration solutions
  • local & global optimization capability
  • visual organizational functionality

How to Pipe-It ?

You can pipe together your project from bottom-up or top-down. Each software application being launched is called a Process. Any file connected with a Process is called a Resource. You can chain together as many Processes as needed using Connectors, in any order (parallel and/or series). A collection of Processes can be grouped into a Composite. The total collection of all Processes, Resources, and Composites is a Pipe-It Project. The Runner orchestrates, without user intervention, intelligent and efficient launching of all Processes in a Pipe-It Project. Literally any data in Resource files can be accessed with Linkz. An entire Pipe-It Project can be run time-and-again with changes to any input data using the Optimizer, with built-in or plug-in solvers such as Experimental Design, derivative- and non-derivative-based NL and MINL methods.

Who uses Pipe-It ?

Pipe-It can be used by an individual engineer, by a discipline group such as reservoir modelers, or by an entire asset. Because Pipe-It provides the ultimate in modularity, a large integrated Pipe-It project can simply be the collection of many smaller Pipe-It projects created independently by discipline groups or individuals. We want Pipe-It to unleash innovation, to solve yet-unsolved problems, and to push the limits of model-based integration. Current Pipe-It users include large oil companies like Statoil and Petrobras, smaller oil companies like Edison, and consultancy companies like PERA. We believe that the more users of Pipe-It, the faster it will develop. We therefore provide free Pipe-It usage for universities, smaller consultancy companies and research organizations.
